What is HIP 45661
White, sharp, within the strange body of Lynx —a constellation created in the seventeenth century by Hevelius, who claimed only lynxes could see it with the naked eye. At 284 light-years, this A-type star carried its light through space while Mozart was a child prodigy touring the European courts with his sister Nannerl.
Where it is and when to see it
HIP 45661 lies in the northern celestial hemisphere. It is visible to the naked eye under a dark sky. Its best month of the year is January: the Sun sits at the opposite point of the sky and the star culminates around midnight.
