In the southern depths of Carina shines a yellow G-type star, distant cousin of the Sun. Its light departed four hundred and seventy-three years ago, when Andreas Vesalius was dissecting human bodies in Padua and modern anatomy was being born. Temperate and luminous, it looks like a warm candle held by a cartographer's hand in the Pacific night. To see it is to return to the century in which curiosity dared to open what was closed.

HIP 45219 lies in the southern celestial hemisphere. It is visible to the naked eye under a dark sky. Its best month of the year is March: the Sun sits at the opposite point of the sky and the star culminates around midnight.
