Achird is an intimate neighbour of the Sun, just 19 light years away in Cassiopeia, and it shares with our star both G class and yellow temperature. It belongs to a double system whose companion is a small orange dwarf, and shows mild variations of chromospheric activity. It is one of the few Sun-like stars close enough to study in detail with a modest astronomer's eye.
Where it is and when to see it
Achird lies in the northern celestial hemisphere. It is visible to the naked eye under a dark sky. Its best month of the year is November: the Sun sits at the opposite point of the sky and the star culminates around midnight. How high it climbs above the horizon depends on the latitude you watch from.
