50 Cassiopeiae shines with a blue-white light within Cassiopeia's W, bright enough to be seen with the naked eye even from moderate urban skies. It is an A2 main-sequence star that radiates more than sixty times the Sun's energy, set at 157 light-years. It is drifting slowly toward the Solar System, and in nearly two million years it will pass at half its current distance.
