Its story

Above the Stern of the ancient ship Argo shines a white A-type star, hotter and more luminous than the Sun. Its light began the journey some 276 years ago, when Halley was leaving his cometary tables behind and Maupertuis was measuring the exact shape of the Earth in arctic latitudes. It arrives now with that cool, distinguished brightness that sets white stars apart in southern skies.
