What is HIP 35427

In Canis Major, far from the glare of Sirius, a yellow star of the Sun's kind burns at 1,254 light-years. Its light departed around the year 770, when Charlemagne was consolidating his Frankish realm through endless campaigns. A mature G giant: what the Sun will become some five billion years from now, when its hydrogen runs out and it swells.

HIP 35427 lies in the southern celestial hemisphere. It is visible to the naked eye under a dark sky. Its best month of the year is January: the Sun sits at the opposite point of the sky and the star culminates around midnight.
