What is 45 Geminorum
45 Geminorum is a yellow G-type star in the Twins, around 323 light-years away from Earth. It shares the Sun's exact colour, yet lies more than a thousand times farther than the nearest stellar system to ours. It hangs to one side of the bright pair that gives the entire constellation its name, like a silent witness of the northern winter night sky overhead.
Where it is and when to see it
45 Geminorum lies in the northern celestial hemisphere. It is visible to the naked eye under a dark sky. Its best month of the year is January: the Sun sits at the opposite point of the sky and the star culminates around midnight. How high it climbs above the horizon depends on the latitude you watch from.
