Variable starIts story
In Canis Major, some 650 light-years away, vibrates this variable blue type B star. Its light set out around 1376, while Europe was still emerging from the shock of the Black Death and the first universities were rebuilding lost knowledge. Far hotter and more massive than the Sun, its brightness oscillates softly: a blue heartbeat stitched into the coat of the celestial dog that watches beneath Sirius.
