What is 106 Tauri
106 Tauri shines with the white light of an A-type star at the edges of Taurus, far from the clamour of the Pleiades and Aldebaran. Its light comes from some 189 light-years away: it left around 1837, when Victoria was ascending the British throne. It is one of those stars Flamsteed catalogued with the patience of a celestial notary, small white embers along the quiet outline of the cosmic animal.
Where it is and when to see it
106 Tauri lies in the northern celestial hemisphere. It is visible to the naked eye under a dark sky. Its best month of the year is December: the Sun sits at the opposite point of the sky and the star culminates around midnight.
