In Camelopardalis, the giraffe of the polar regions, shines a white A-type star 332 light-years away. Its light set out as Bach moved his music to the palace of Köthen and shaped the Brandenburg Concertos. Hotter and more luminous than the Sun, it holds its calm white blaze in a region of sky that never sinks below the horizon for the inhabitants of northern Europe.
