Pi Tauri
What is Pi Tauri
Pi Tauri appears among the stars of the Hyades, yet does not belong to that cluster: it lies nearly three times farther, around 417 light-years away, and shares only the line of sight. A yellow G-type giant that perspective has placed in the head of the Bull, a distant guest looking in on the nearest family of suns bound together by their common birth.
Where it is and when to see it
Pi Tauri lies in the northern celestial hemisphere. It is visible to the naked eye under a dark sky. Its best month of the year is November: the Sun sits at the opposite point of the sky and the star culminates around midnight. How high it climbs above the horizon depends on the latitude you watch from.
