Mu Tauri is a hot blue type B star burning some 456 light-years away, on the neck of the Bull. It haunts the celestial precinct of the Hyades —the V-shaped open cluster that traces the animal's face— and visually shares the gathering that frames red Aldebaran. Its cool tint and bright glow place it among the many young, vigorous workers of a region so heavily charged with mythology.
Where it is and when to see it
Mu Tauri lies in the northern celestial hemisphere. It is visible to the naked eye under a dark sky. Its best month of the year is November: the Sun sits at the opposite point of the sky and the star culminates around midnight. How high it climbs above the horizon depends on the latitude you watch from.
