What is 90 Tauri
Within the body of the Bull burns 90 Tauri, a white A-type sun catalogued by John Flamsteed among the members of the Hyades cluster. Its cool, sharp light travels roughly 154 years to reach our eyes —when it set out, Europe was still learning to read the sky through refracting telescopes—. To the naked eye it slips by unnoticed; through binoculars it surfaces as a clean pinpoint, threaded into the luminous V that traces the Bull's face.
Where it is and when to see it
90 Tauri lies in the northern celestial hemisphere. It is visible to the naked eye under a dark sky. Its best month of the year is December: the Sun sits at the opposite point of the sky and the star culminates around midnight. How high it climbs above the horizon depends on the latitude you watch from.
