Epsilon Persei shines some 638 light-years away, a hot blue B-type star that pulses with the restless rhythm of Beta Cephei variables. It anchors the body of Perseus, the hero fixed to the northern winter sky, where its cold fire shares the stage with Algol and Mirfak. A spectroscopic binary, its companion has never been resolved in a telescope —only inferred from the slow swing of its spectral lines.

Epsilon Persei lies in the northern celestial hemisphere. It is visible to the naked eye under a dark sky. Its best month of the year is November: the Sun sits at the opposite point of the sky and the star culminates around midnight. How high it climbs above the horizon depends on the latitude you watch from.
