Maia

Hot blue star

Its story

Maia is one of the seven sisters of the Pleiades, the delicate blue cluster burning within Taurus. She carries the name of the eldest daughter of the Titan Atlas and mother of Hermes in Greek myth. A hot B-class star 383 light years away, she is still wrapped in filaments of interstellar dust that reflect her light and give the cluster its characteristic nocturnal mist.
