What is Theta 1 Tauri
θ¹ Tauri belongs to the Hyades, the closest open cluster to Earth and the true stellar family of the Bull. With θ² it forms a naked-eye pair, two yellow giants born from the same cloud some six hundred million years ago. Together with Aldebaran —which only overlaps them in perspective— they trace the luminous face of the celestial Bull.
Where it is and when to see it
Theta 1 Tauri lies in the northern celestial hemisphere. It is visible to the naked eye under a dark sky. Its best month of the year is November: the Sun sits at the opposite point of the sky and the star culminates around midnight. How high it climbs above the horizon depends on the latitude you watch from.
