85 Pegasi is one of the catalogue's nearest multiple systems, just 39.7 light-years away. Its primary is a yellow G5Vb dwarf very much like the Sun —0.82 solar masses and around 5600 K—, paired with a K7V orange dwarf that orbits every 26 years at 10.3 astronomical units; that secondary may itself harbour a tiny red dwarf companion. The system is some 9.3 billion years old: twice the age of our own Sun.
Where it is and when to see it
85 Pegasi lies in the northern celestial hemisphere. It is visible to the naked eye under a dark sky. Its best month of the year is October: the Sun sits at the opposite point of the sky and the star culminates around midnight. How high it climbs above the horizon depends on the latitude you watch from.
