What is 36 Persei
36 Persei is a pale yellow F-type star in Perseus, just 118 light-years away from Earth —relatively close among Flamsteed catalogue stars. It runs noticeably hotter than the Sun and lives near the beautiful Double Cluster, that pair of stellar swarms a trained eye can split into two soft smudges suspended between Perseus and Cassiopeia. A real neighbour of ours, in a distinguished part of the northern sky.
Where it is and when to see it
36 Persei lies in the northern celestial hemisphere. It is visible to the naked eye under a dark sky. Its best month of the year is November: the Sun sits at the opposite point of the sky and the star culminates around midnight. How high it climbs above the horizon depends on the latitude you watch from.
