What is Sigma Andromedae
Sigma Andromedae shines white at 135 light-years, an A-type star anchored to the silhouette of the chained princess. Its atmosphere, several thousand degrees hotter than the Sun's, gives it that crisp, almost surgical hue typical of young blue-white stars. When the light we see tonight first set out across interstellar space, Mozart had not yet written his last symphony and steam engines were beginning their slow conquest of Europe.

Sigma Andromedae lies in the northern celestial hemisphere. It is visible to the naked eye under a dark sky. Its best month of the year is October: the Sun sits at the opposite point of the sky and the star culminates around midnight. How high it climbs above the horizon depends on the latitude you watch from.
