What is HIP 1354
In Cassiopeia shines a yellow giant some 620 light-years away. Its light set out around 1406, when great Chinese navigators were sailing the southern seas and Castile was preparing the dawn of its expansion. Golden like the Sun but far larger, it foretells the fate awaiting middle-sized stars: to swell, redden, and surrender their lightest layers back to space.
Where it is and when to see it
HIP 1354 lies in the northern celestial hemisphere. It is visible to the naked eye under a dark sky. Its best month of the year is November: the Sun sits at the opposite point of the sky and the star culminates around midnight. How high it climbs above the horizon depends on the latitude you watch from.
