Highly luminous starIts story
2 Cassiopeiae is a white, chemically peculiar Am-type giant, a spectral oddity betrayed by unusual abundances of certain metals in its atmosphere. It shines from more than seventeen hundred light-years away, making it one of the more distant luminous giants reachable by the unaided eye in Cassiopeia. Its light departed when the Roman Empire was beginning to fracture, long before this constellation took the name of the mythic queen.
