What is Pi Piscis Austrini

Pi Piscis Austrini is a white type A star peeking out some 96 light-years away, in the Southern Fish, the very constellation that guards bright Fomalhaut. To the naked eye it is barely a modest point, but its A spectral class reveals a hot, youthful atmosphere of nearly pure hydrogen. In its celestial neighbourhood the mythical waters flow from the Water Bearer down to the open mouth of the fish.

Pi Piscis Austrini lies in the southern celestial hemisphere. It is visible to the naked eye under a dark sky. Its best month of the year is August: the Sun sits at the opposite point of the sky and the star culminates around midnight.
