15 Lacertae is one of the few bright stars in the Lizard, that discreet constellation winding between Cygnus and Andromeda. M-type, cool and reddish, it shows the colour of a distant ember some 325 light-years off. An aged giant —past the main sequence— casting a warm glow on a too-often forgotten corner of the autumn sky.
Where it is and when to see it
15 Lacerta lies in the northern celestial hemisphere. It is visible to the naked eye under a dark sky. Its best month of the year is September: the Sun sits at the opposite point of the sky and the star culminates around midnight. How high it climbs above the horizon depends on the latitude you watch from.
