What is HIP 111242
On the northern throne of Cepheus flashes a white A-type star. Its light departed almost eight hundred years ago, when master builders were raising the cathedral of Chartres and the Gothic was making stone sing. Hotter than the Sun, it pours a firm white, like a stained-glass window lit at the far end of the celestial nave. Each flash carries the dust of stonemasons and painters who dreamed of touching the sky from the earth.
Where it is and when to see it
HIP 111242 lies in the northern celestial hemisphere. It is visible to the naked eye under a dark sky. Its best month of the year is November: the Sun sits at the opposite point of the sky and the star culminates around midnight. How high it climbs above the horizon depends on the latitude you watch from.
