On the wing of the winged horse Pegasus pulses this yellow G-type star, gently variable, only 58 light-years away. Its light began its journey around 1968, while the Apollo 8 probe was photographing the first earthrise from the Moon and the famous Earthrise picture was taken. It is a close cousin of the Sun, young, active, with a glow that flickers shyly. We see it as a friendly heartbeat from the year of Earthrise.
Where it is and when to see it
HIP 107350 lies in the northern celestial hemisphere. It is visible to the naked eye under a dark sky. Its best month of the year is August: the Sun sits at the opposite point of the sky and the star culminates around midnight. How high it climbs above the horizon depends on the latitude you watch from.
