Variable star

Its story

In winged Pegasus shines this white A-type star, close in cosmic terms: one hundred twenty-eight light years away. Its light departed around 1898, the year Pierre and Marie Curie announced in Paris the discovery of polonium and radium, opening the era of radioactivity. Hotter and more luminous than the Sun, its brightness varies subtly with time —an inner restlessness betraying the pulsations of a young star, riding silently on the back of the celestial horse.
