A red M-type giant burns slowly in the Swan, cosmic plumage stretched across the Milky Way. Its light set out more than six hundred and forty years ago, when European kingdoms were founding their first universities and the printing press did not yet exist. Far cooler than the Sun but immense in size, it stains the night with a calm red —the color of stars already writing their epilogue.
Where it is and when to see it
HIP 107235 lies in the northern celestial hemisphere. It is visible to the naked eye under a dark sky. Its best month of the year is September, when it culminates around midnight.
