In the Whale —Cetus, that mythic creature spanning the equatorial band— shines a yellow G-type sun, nearly solar and nearly close: 79 light-years. Its light set out around 1947, the year Bell Labs unveiled the transistor that would reshape electronics. It arrives now at magnitude 5.6, modest to the human eye but limpid through optics.
