What is 28 Ceti
28 Ceti glides along the body of the sky's great whale, a vast and quiet constellation stretching near the equatorial horizon. It is a white A-type star with a surface markedly hotter than the Sun's, and its light crosses nearly five hundred and ninety years before touching Earth. When those photons set out, the late Middle Ages still set the rhythm of life across Europe.
Where it is and when to see it
28 Ceti lies in the southern celestial hemisphere. It is visible to the naked eye under a dark sky. Its best month of the year is October: the Sun sits at the opposite point of the sky and the star culminates around midnight. How high it climbs above the horizon depends on the latitude you watch from.
