What is 77 Cygni
77 Cygni is a white A-type star in the Swan, the constellation unfolding like a luminous cross over the densest stretch of the northern Milky Way. Just over four hundred light-years away, its light departed when Galileo first turned his spyglass to the heavens and discovered that the whitish band resolved into myriads of stars.
Where it is and when to see it
77 Cygni lies in the northern celestial hemisphere. It is visible to the naked eye under a dark sky. Its best month of the year is September: the Sun sits at the opposite point of the sky and the star culminates around midnight. How high it climbs above the horizon depends on the latitude you watch from.
