Nu Aquarii
What is Nu Aquarii
Nu Aquarii is a yellow giant, cooler and far more extended than the Sun, that has left youth behind — its hydrogen burning has bloated its outer layers. It shines quietly in the Water Bearer, where ancient myth placed the cupbearer of the gods pouring the river that flows toward the Southern Fish. Its light, after travelling 159 years, reaches our eyes as a gentle yellow echo of a distant fin de siècle.
Where it is and when to see it
Nu Aquarii lies in the southern celestial hemisphere. It is visible to the naked eye under a dark sky. Its best month of the year is August: the Sun sits at the opposite point of the sky and the star culminates around midnight. How high it climbs above the horizon depends on the latitude you watch from.
