35 Cygni is a yellow supergiant of spectral type F6Ib, a massive star that has burned through its core hydrogen and now fuses heavier elements in an unstable equilibrium. It lies about 3,300 light-years away —its light takes longer than all of recorded history to reach us— and belongs to a spectroscopic binary. It glows in the neck of the Swan, crossing the luminous band of the northern Milky Way.
