Variable starIts story
62 Sagittarii pulses quietly above the head of Sagittarius, a cool red M-type giant whose brightness shifts slowly, as if breathing. Its light takes nearly 449 years to reach us —it set out when Galileo first turned a telescope on the sky. It belongs to that family of old, swollen stars that have left behind the calm burning of hydrogen and now move, step by step, toward their final transformation.
