Its story
57 Sagittarii is an orange giant 378 light-years away, in the very body of the Archer, the region of the sky where the centre of the Milky Way looks out. Behind its amber glow, billions of suns pile into the milky brushstroke that crosses the northern summer. Its light set out in the mid-seventeenth century, contemporary with the first telescopes of Galileo and Cassini. To look toward 57 Sagittarii is to lean toward the heart of our galaxy.
