What is Delta Aquilae

Delta Aquilae is a near neighbour —barely fifty light-years away— easily picked out on summer evenings. An F-type star, slightly hotter and brighter than the Sun, it marks the elbow of the bird gliding south along the Milky Way. The light arriving tonight set out when the first transistors were warming up, and meets every patient gaze right on time.

Where it is and when to see it

Delta Aquilae lies in the northern celestial hemisphere. It is visible to the naked eye under a dark sky. Its best month of the year is July: the Sun sits at the opposite point of the sky and the star culminates around midnight. How high it climbs above the horizon depends on the latitude you watch from.
