What is Delta Aquilae

Delta Aquilae is a near neighbour —barely fifty light-years away— easily picked out on summer evenings. An F-type star, slightly hotter and brighter than the Sun, it marks the elbow of the bird gliding south along the Milky Way. The light arriving tonight set out when the first transistors were warming up, and meets every patient gaze right on time.

Where it is and when to see it

Delta Aquilae lies in the northern celestial hemisphere. It is visible to the naked eye under a dark sky. Its best month of the year is July, when it culminates around midnight.

From London it culminates about 42° above the horizon.
From New York it culminates about 52° above the horizon.
From Sydney it culminates about 53° above the horizon.

It can be seen from anywhere north of 87° S.
