31 Aquilae is a solar neighbour, a G-type star just 49 light-years away in the body of the summer Eagle. Its light, leaving home during the 1970s, arrives still warm in the present. It shares spectral family with the Sun and belongs to that catalogue of stars astronomers watch with affection for their resemblance to our own.
