What is 37 Aquilae

37 Aquilae is a G-type yellow giant 458 light-years away, suspended on the wing of the celestial Eagle, not far from brilliant Altair. Its golden light recalls the Sun, but in an enlarged edition —a portrait of what our star will become many ages from now. That light left its source before Galileo had ever raised his telescope to the sky.

37 Aquilae lies in the southern celestial hemisphere. It is visible to the naked eye under a dark sky. Its best month of the year is July, when it culminates around midnight.

From London it culminates about 28° above the horizon.
From New York it culminates about 39° above the horizon.
From Sydney it culminates about 67° above the horizon.

It can be seen from anywhere south of 79° N.
