Its story
In the depths of Sagittarius, gazing toward the galactic center, shines an orange class K star at 258 light-years. Its light set out around 1768, when Cook was starting his first Pacific voyage and the European Enlightenment was mapping a new world. K stars stand out for their warm color and prolonged evolution; this one is in a stable moderate-giant phase. A tepid light arriving from one of the richest constellations in the sky.
