Highly luminous starIts story
At 2,788 light years in the small Shield, this yellow-white F-type star with a notably luminous nature shines at magnitude 5.82. Its light set out around 762 BC, the century when Homer composed or transmitted the Iliad. Its high intrinsic luminosity compensates for an enormous distance, placing it among the giants and supergiants that mark the spiral arms with yellowish beacons far rarer than the Sun.
