What is Lambda Arietis
λ Arietis shines yellow-white at 129 light-years, set on one flank of the small zodiacal Ram. An F-class star, slightly hotter than the Sun and therefore slightly whiter, it lives a slightly shorter life. It belongs to the modest handful of stars that sketch Aries — few, discreet, yet enough for the Sun to cross them each spring along its apparent path on the ecliptic.
Where it is and when to see it
Lambda Arietis lies in the northern celestial hemisphere. It is visible to the naked eye under a dark sky. Its best month of the year is October: the Sun sits at the opposite point of the sky and the star culminates around midnight. How high it climbs above the horizon depends on the latitude you watch from.
