What is 6 Ceti
6 Ceti is a yellow-white F8 sun in Cetus, just 61 light-years away from us. It carries 12 percent more mass than our own Sun and is about 4.2 billion years old —slightly younger, almost a cosmic sibling born in another corner of the same galactic neighbourhood. To watch it from a truly dark sky is to catch light that began its journey toward Earth during the early years of the Cold War.
Where it is and when to see it
6 Ceti lies in the southern celestial hemisphere. It is visible to the naked eye under a dark sky. Its best month of the year is September: the Sun sits at the opposite point of the sky and the star culminates around midnight. How high it climbs above the horizon depends on the latitude you watch from.
