What is 7 Sagittarii
7 Sagittarii is a yellow-white F-type star burning at more than a thousand light-years, looking onto the archer that aims toward the center of the Milky Way. Its glow crosses precisely the densest stretch of the galactic disk, with billions of suns concentrated toward the core. Every photon arriving tonight departed around the year 950, when the Andalusian caliphates were lighting European astronomy.
Where it is and when to see it
7 Sagittarii lies in the southern celestial hemisphere. It is visible to the naked eye under a dark sky. Its best month of the year is June: the Sun sits at the opposite point of the sky and the star culminates around midnight. How high it climbs above the horizon depends on the latitude you watch from.
