Cool red star

Its story

Among the muscles of Hercules shines a red M-type giant, about 572 light-years away. Its light set out around 1454, when Gutenberg was printing his 42-line Bible in Mainz and the world was learning to read at scale. Far cooler than the Sun yet swollen to colossal proportions, it radiates a deep, slow red —almost an ember refusing to die down.
