What is HIP 87846

It shines in Scorpius with the amber light of a K-type star —that warm, restful tone that comes just before red. The light arriving tonight left some 290 years ago, when Bach was premiering cantatas in Leipzig and water still reached European kitchens without pipes. Within the curling tail of the scorpion it sits to the side, away from the famous knots. A calm companion in a stretch of sky known for its summer intensity.
