Acrab B is the secondary component of Acrab, a multiple system in the northern claw of Scorpius. She shines blue at 398 light-years, only seconds of arc from her main partner: a resolution only telescopes can split. The name Acrab comes from the Arabic «al-ʿaqrab», 'the scorpion', and the designation B identifies this fainter yet equally hot component.
Where it is and when to see it
Acrab B lies in the southern celestial hemisphere. It is visible to the naked eye under a dark sky. Its best month of the year is May: the Sun sits at the opposite point of the sky and the star culminates around midnight. How high it climbs above the horizon depends on the latitude you watch from.
