What is HIP 85667
It is a yellow G-type star in Ophiuchus, a near neighbour in cosmic terms: little more than half a hundred light-years away. The light arriving tonight left around 1972, when the Apollo rovers were leaving tracks in lunar dust. It shares colour and temperament with the Sun, though each star has its own biography. Ophiuchus, the serpent-bearer, sustains it without turning it into a landmark.

HIP 85667 lies in the southern celestial hemisphere. It is visible to the naked eye under a dark sky. Its best month of the year is June: the Sun sits at the opposite point of the sky and the star culminates around midnight. How high it climbs above the horizon depends on the latitude you watch from.
