What is 41 Ophiuchi
41 Ophiuchi is an orange K-type giant some 206 light-years distant, set within the broad outline of Ophiuchus. Its outer layers, already distended after burning the core hydrogen, glow with a warm hue visible even to the unaided eye. It rests in a region close to the ecliptic, crossed by the Sun during boreal autumn. The light arriving tonight was born in the heart of European Romanticism.

41 Ophiuchi lies in the southern celestial hemisphere. It is visible to the naked eye under a dark sky. Its best month of the year is June: the Sun sits at the opposite point of the sky and the star culminates around midnight. How high it climbs above the horizon depends on the latitude you watch from.
