What is HIP 84033
In Scorpius, between the claws and the sting, shines a yellow star kindred to the Sun yet older and more swollen. Its light began the journey around 1710, when the great Newtonian telescopes were opening a new era in the observation of the sky. We see it now exactly as it was then, suspended between the memory of the eighteenth century and the present night.
Where it is and when to see it
HIP 84033 lies in the southern celestial hemisphere. It is visible to the naked eye under a dark sky. Its best month of the year is June: the Sun sits at the opposite point of the sky and the star culminates around midnight. How high it climbs above the horizon depends on the latitude you watch from.
