Hot blue starIts story
Above the southern altar of Ara, this hot blue B-type star glows about 570 light-years away. Its light departed around 1455, when Gutenberg was printing the 42-line Bible and Constantinople had just fallen into Ottoman hands. Far hotter than the Sun, its bluish brilliance betrays a swift and intense stellar life. We contemplate it as a luminous echo from the dawn of printing and the close of the Middle Ages.
